Buscando Justicia - Searching for Justice is a 30 minute film about the emergence of Cafe Justicia and the Campesino Committee of the Highlands. The CCDA is an indigenous peasant organization committed to social justice in Guatemala. The CCDA was founded in 1982 in response to the violence and human rights violations of Guatemala’s 36-year civil war. The CCDA was successful in assisting many of its members obtain land. These farmers, however, did not have a market for their products, and began seeking fair trade buyers for their members’ coffee. The CCDA, in conjunction with Solidarity groups now exports its coffee and uses the profits to fund their land, labour, education, gender, and human rights programs. Cafe Justicia producers earn 60% more than regular fair trade coffee. The film outlines the difference between traditional coffee market, fair trade and fair trade PLUS. All are welcome, cafe justicia will be served!
