civil disobedience time

Matthew Behrens of Homes Not Bombs facilitated a very interactive and informative day-long workshop on non-violent resistance and civil disobedience Saturday (Jan. 28).

With support from McMaster's Peace Studies programme, OPIRG brought Matthew in to provide insights gained through his years of participation in creative resistance to militarism, corporate greed and poverty.

25 people attended the workshop and through discussion and role-playing, explored the role of civil-disobedience in positive social and environmental movements.

Here, some "police" drag an uncivil demonstrator away from the role play. (No charges were laid.)

The workshop featured videos, some featuring local activism like protests against the (now defunct) Hamilton War (Air) Show, plus historical examples of creative resistance against the war in Vietnam, Santa(s) against War Toys, and many more.
