cootes (wet) walk

Brian McHattie, a very fine city councillor for ward one (which includes McMaster), also happens to be a damn fine naturalist (he's former president of the Hamilton Naturalist Club) and guide for what has become an annual Car Free Week guided hike in Cootes Paradise.

A brutal thunder storm raged prior to the 10 am start, so it was a small but intrepid group of four that set out to visit the Carolinian forest and wetland that abuts McMaster.

Missing this year were the friendly but nevertheless armed police escort through the woods (they thought that we were going to close down Cootes drive, which is a fine idea, but we didn't have enough pick-axes to make a really good start).

Any Mac students interested in exploring the surrounding nature trails can come by OPIRG for some informal directions.
