Promoting Waste Reduction on Campus
Trash Talk, formerly known as Mugs at Mac, is a new OPIRG Public Interest Project with a focus on promoting proper waste management practices on campus and improving McMaster's waste diversion rate. It is our goal to help make the McMaster recycling and composting systems easy to follow, and to improve access to reusable everyday products on campus!
The group's first event was tabling at the Sustainability Fair hosted by the McMaster Energy Management and Sustainability Division on November 5th. We organized a simple waste-sorting game to show participants how well they know McMaster's recycling, garbage and compost systems.
In mid-November, Trash Talk collaborated with Facility Services to perform an audit of McMaster's new Organic Waste bins. We wanted to see if the receptacles are being used properly, and what items (if any) are frequently misplaced. Check out the next blog post to see what we found!
