summer student jobs (part time)

OPIRG McMaster has funds available to pay for student research, both through OPIRG's budget, and through external funding.

OPIRG has three fabulously interesting jobs available in the summer for students approved for the Summer Work Programme offered through the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (click here for link)

All the jobs are 10 hours a week, $12.00 per hour, from May 5th - July 11th. Please apply to opirg@mcmaster.ca, attention: Shelley and Hanna. Deadline for application is April 18th, 2008.

a. Natural Areas Hikes Co-ordinator
The individual hired for this job will be responsible for organizing and implementing hikes/tours of natural areas in Hamilton, utilizing sustainable transportation methods to reach the sites. The co-ordinator will seek to engage students in their natural surroundings. The co-ordinator will attempt to find ways to enhance the walkability of the city and engage in trail clean-up activities .
Necessary Skills: Networking and communication; organization and research; self-motivation and awareness of environmental and social justice issues.

b. Battery Recycling Researcher
The researcher will be responsible for examining the current battery recycling procedures on campus and making suggestions for improving the process, thereby diverting excess batteries from landfill sites.
Necessary Skills: Networking and communication; organization and research; self-motivation, and knowledge of environmental issues.

c. Anti-Poverty Initiative Assistant
The API assistant will support the on-going work of the Anti-Poverty Iniative, which seeks to establish links between research interests and the needs of the larger community.
