High School students get a chance to try out the bus bike racks on an HSR bus at the Living the Environment conference hosted by the Hamilton Community Foundation, Mohawk College, and OPIRG McMaster, Tuesday (November 4, 2008).
Lots of students took the opportunity to try loading a bike on the bus racks during the lunch hour at the day-long conference.
Happy for the chance to try it for the first time, the students found the racks simple to use, and appreciated the non-stressful environment this demonstration provided.
Every HSR bus in Hamilton is equipped with these front-mounted bike racks able to hold two bicycles. They are on the buses year round.
GO transit buses have also added the same racks to their buses in the Hamilton-Toronto corridor.
Burlington Transit uses the racks, but removes them in the fall-winter. UPDATE: It appears Burlington Transit will be leaving the racks on year-round, a new policy for them, excellent!
